With a past in both design and vintage clothing, Anna has created her 2020 range inspired by the local music industry and all things 70's. Showcasing her range is a short film inspired by Italian new wave cinema, bringing elements of dreamlike absurdity and stark movement into other-worldly vignettes.
The film seeks to capture the values of community and cohesion behind her work.
After taking an almost decade long hiatus from music making – a period in which she became a mother to five children – Anna Cordell began working on her clothing label Anna Cordell, an ethically made, slow fashion range. Anna designs, then collaborates with friends Vanessa, a local fashion graduate, tailor and designer; Dung, originally a tailor in Vietnam who has spent years working with international clothing labels; and Kala, who brings originality, creativity and expertise from Sri Lanka. A small force with a huge enthusiasm for quality, creativity and the art of beautiful clothing. Her garments are made either in very limited quantity or made to order, avoiding the waste often associated with large production lines. Each fabric and garment is sourced and sewn in Melbourne.
